Lyrics - Somewhere in the dark
10:09 1. Clock
Many a time I've been thinking that life is a never ending game. Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose, but the odds always stay the same. And time flows like a river. I know that's what it's gonna do. Someday it will hurt you, someday it'll tease you, but someday it'll be gentle too, so don't be afraid. And time flies like an eagle, soaring high in the sky. Over the high and the low times, always passing you by. Its talons reaching out for you and it carries you through over valleys and mountains, never loosing its grip on you. As you travel on the misty path of life, everything you see becomes a part of you. The hills and valleys you roam become your own, and deep within your soul you start to grow. You sleep, you dream, and dreams become reality. And when you wake up, you find you've changed. The clock of life is ticking in the hall. If we strive, we'll rise before we fall. Don't give up to fight before you die, or you'll find you've been living in a lie. And time flies like an eagle, soaring high in the sky. Over the high and the low times, always passing you by. Its talons reaching out for you, and it carries you through over valleys and mountains, never loosing its grip on you. A clock is ticking inside my head. When will I join the league of the dead? Time is always running out, when you're down and out. A clock is ticking inside my head.
04:46 2. Changing the rules
The makeup she wears cannot disguise the heavy bruises she tries to hide. Her eyes are in tears and all that she fears is waiting quietly in her own home. Her coffee gets cold as she stares out of the window, her heart feels so old from building a wall against the shame, against the pain, inflicted all over and over again. He's loved by his neighbours he's nice and respected, but when he's alone with her he's like a raging storm. He kicks and he grabs her and he beats her to tears, he's worse than her deepest and darkest fears. She hides in the corner when she hears him coming, she looks at the ground when he's getting too close. She's too afraid to talk and to afraid to walk out of this house and this life. She tries to hide, she wears her pride over the pain, but it hurts her all the same. One day she drives into town and she gets a gun. She's gonna protect herself and her young one. If he ever lays hands on her again, she's gonna pull the trigger and then he'll pay for the very bad things that he's done. She's changing the rules.
02:46 3. Waiting for darkness
Darkness comes like a thief on padded feet, creeping behind you, like a snake that's chasing its prey. Suddenly, you start to feel the need: You gotta get out into the dying day, you gotta get out into the dying day. Waiting for darkness to deeply enfold you, waiting for darkness to have and to hold you, waiting for darkness, your saviour and guide, waiting for darkness to stay by your side. (Waiting for the night). The longing returns to you night after night and you're giving in like a junkie to the pain. You'll find what you need and it's close by your side so you walk out into the night again. Waiting for darkness to deeply enfold you, waiting for darkness to have and to hold you, waiting for darkness, your saviour and guide tonight, waiting for darkness to stay by your side.
10:25 4. Simple man
Woke up on a beach today, didn't know how I came there. The sky was blue, cotton clouds high up in the air. My clothes were torn, the ship was gone. I've got no one but myself now, I'm on my own. Where is the ship on the horizon that is coming to take me home? I wanna leave this far-away island, I wanna leave it alone. I'm building a fire, I'm lighting it up, waiting for the boat to come and pick me up. Waves are gently lapping at the soles of my feet, the birds are circling above me, and my heart just skips a beat. I'm the second Robinson Crusoe, stranded on this faraway land, I'm not the God of earth and heaven, I'm just a simple man. Just a plain and simple man. How did I get here to this place, a million miles from home, I've lost my sense of time and space and I feel so alone. I'm stranded on this land, so beautiful and calm, I'm like a message in a bottle but the bottle's gone. My body tells me what I need, my mind is in a haze, my thoughts are drifting round and round for endless nights and days. I can see a ship on the horizon, it is coming to take me home! Finally I'm gonna leave this far-away island, I'm gonna leave it alone. I'm gonna leave it alone.
07:27 5. Shadows of the past
Somewhere in the dark, there's a shadow hanging over me. It takes control wherever I go, it makes me do things that I don't want to see. Somewhere in the night, I need to find the light that's burning brightly for me, somewhere in the rain, I'd like to find my true life again. The shadows of the past are threatening my sanity. The ghosts that always last, push me into calamity. And out there in the wind, there's something calling lightly for me. It makes me wanna go, it makes me wanna see. Somewhere in the night, I need to find the light that's burning brightly for me, somewhere in the rain, I'd like to find my true life again. There's a face in the dark, a mask in the crowd. It makes me wanna cry, it makes me wanna shout out loud. I'll never gonna go out into the night, I'll never walk into the light again. The phantoms in my dreams are getting far too real. The voices in my screams are far too much to deal with. Can someone take away my fears? Is there anyone there, who can hear my cries? But when the sun rises in the morning, I get the strength to start it all again. I feel the comfort of an early dawn, I feel the power of a new beginning. And when the sun rises in the morning, I get the strength to start it all again. I feel the comfort of an early dawn, I feel the power of a new beginning.
05:09 6. Driving
Been driving through the night alone. Been thinking of what you've said on the phone. (I need a little time). You need a little time to think it over. I think about the fun we had and it makes me sad, 'cause maybe you'll soon be gone forever. The years have gone by, and I don't know why I always thought that nothing could take you away from me. Been driving through the pouring rain, been listening to our song again and again, where are you now, what are you doing? I think about the time with you. Is there nothing I can do to get you back and make you stay? The years have gone by, and I don't know why I never understood how precious to me you are. Been driving through the night alone, I see no reason why I should be home. The house is empty, the bed is cold. I think about your shining eyes and your lovely smile, your laughter is ringing in my ears. The years have gone by, and I don't know why I always thought that nothing could take you away from me. Rain is splashing on my car. Lightning flashes near and far. Do you feel lonely, just the way I do? Passing headlights burn my eyes and thunder rocks the sky. What went wrong, baby can you please explain. Been driving through the pouring rain, been listening to our song again and again. Where are you now, what are you doing?
10:14 7. Ice
No-one is able to do what he likes, nobody cares if her closest friend dies. People pass by and you don't know why someone sings a song but everybody walks on. Insanity grows like an enormous cancer, look at the world but you won't find an answer. You're driving along and all the lights are on and there's a darkness inside where you can't hide. I'm sick of ignorance and hate but I fear for a change it is too late. I'm sick of ignorance and hate. You couldn't care less for all of this mess, you don't give a damn for all of this spam, isolated like a snowball in hell, we all run around and have nothing to tell. There's a darkness inside and there is no place to hide. All I can feel is this pain coming over me again and again. The numbness in my soul is eating me whole and I don't understand why we can't make amends. The moon in the sky is asking me why there's a tear in my eye. Don't let ignorance rule, it's cold and it's cruel, makes me feel like a fool but there is nothing I can do. Someone show me the way out of this dismay, someone please hold my hand and make me comprehend the things I don't understand. No-one is able to do what he likes, nobody cares if her closest friend dies. Insanity grows like an enormous cancer. Look at the world but you won't find an answer. Don't let ignorance rule, it's so cold and it's cruel. Don't be afraid to make a friend and help each other understand. Open up both your eyes and then you will realise that if we stop all these lies we could live in paradise. Open your eyes.
06:45 8. Morphios
Every night when you close your eyes, it's time for him to descend from the skies. He watches you while you sleep, he gets inside your head, you're his to keep and no-one hears your long and silent cries. He feeds on your most secret pain and night after night he's here again. He's slowly driving you insane. He never leaves your brain, you feel the power, feel the pain. He's slowly driving you insane. You're tossing and turning in your bed. He's right inside your aching head. You want him to leave but he won't go, he's always there but you don't know. He's all you're ever gonna get. Every night when you close your eyes, it's time for him to descend from the skies. He feeds on your most secret pain and night after night he's here again. He's slowly driving you insane. He never leaves your brain, you feel the power, feel the pain. He's slowly driving you insane.
14:35 9. Mud on the hill
You look up to the hill above. You are prepared to climb but you're afraid to start, you're afraid to start. The path is stony but you will take heart. The mud on the hill won't break your will. The first steps you take are slow, but soon your confidence will start to grow, start to grow. You walk along the narrow path alone. The mud on the hill won't break your will. One step up, two steps down. Two steps up and only one step down. The mud on the hill is all you can feel. The mud at your feet is heavy and deep. You try so hard to free your mind, you look inside but there's only the hill you find, only the hill you find. The steep incline dominates your mind. The mud on the hill won't break your will. You find the strength to start again, you overcome fatigue you overcome the pain. You'll continue on despite the strain. The mud in your mind is making you blind. One step up, two steps down. Two steps up and only one step down. Climbing up, never loose the way. Sliding down, tumbling away. Gripping dirt, mouth is getting dry. Clutching rocks, getting low and high. Clutching crawling sliding falling gripping slipping walking mumbling talking stumbling tottering tumbling down the hill. One step up, two steps down. Two steps up and only one step down. The mud on the hill is all you can feel. The mud at your feet is heavy and deep. So the mud on the hill finally broke his will. He came tumbling down. Down to the ground, and now he's gotta start all over again.
